About the Alliance<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

Our mission<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Scottish Rewilding Alliance brings together organisations who share one goal: to help nature recover and thrive across Scotland like never before. Together, we are building a sustainable movement for rewilding Scotland. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We believe the best way to do this is by working in partnership with communities, local communities, interest groups, and the government. Our members fight for wilder nature in their local areas as well as across Scotland. We use powerful stories<\/a> and clear evidence to advocate for policy solutions that support nature\u2019s recovery.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our aim is simple: to create healthy, self-sustaining nature-based economies that support wildlife and provide lasting benefits for people living nearby. We want nature and communities to grow stronger together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our history<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

We were founded in 2019<\/strong>, when a group of organisations passionate about wilder nature joined forces to make sure rewilding was firmly on Scotland\u2019s political agenda. By combining our voices, we knew we could have a stronger impact together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2020 <\/strong>we began exploring the idea of the Rewilding Nation<\/a>, releasing an animation<\/a> narrated by wildlife presenter and filmmaker Gordon Buchanan that highlights Scotland\u2019s natural potential.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the Scottish elections in 2021 <\/strong>we advocated for lynx and beaver reintroductions to be government policy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our short film Choices<\/a> <\/em>was launched in 2022<\/strong>, calling on the Scottish Government to choose rewilding and demonstrate global leadership on nature recovery.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A milestone was reached in 2023 <\/strong>as the Scottish Government published a formal definition of rewilding. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2024 <\/strong>we premiered our feature film, Why Not Scotland?<\/a><\/em>, the story of a young Scot who journeys to Europe to see how nature can bounce back. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our funding<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Scottish Rewilding Alliance is funded through annual contributions from its members. Our campaign activity during 2024 to 2026 has been funded through a crowdfunding effort run through the Big Give. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
